What is the GPSR Regulation?

The GPSR regulation ensures that only safe products are sold in the EU, protecting consumers and ensuring fair competition. When brands operate in a marketplace, they must ensure compliance with GPSR requirements. This EU regulation comes into effect on the 13th of December 2024 and affects all brands stocked at Wolf & Badger.

Here is an outline of the key requirements:

  1. Product Safety Assurance
  2. Product Traceability
  3. Product Labelling Information
  4. Incident Management
  5. Market Surveillance Cooperation

1. Product Safety Assurance

  • Risk Assessment: Ensure all products are safe under normal or foreseeable use, for example:

    • Material safety: Check that the material isn't treated with harmful chemicals and is labeled correctly if it contains allergens (like latex or certain dyes, nickel etc.).
    • Construction quality: Inspect the product for defects like sharp edges, poorly secured buttons, or loose stitching that could pose a safety risk.
    • Intended use: Ensure the product is suitable for the intended purpose (e.g., not misleadingly marketed as flame-resistant when they are not).
  • Testing and Certification: Conduct product testing to confirm compliance with applicable safety standards (if applicable).

2. Product Traceability

    • Technical Documentation: Maintain technical files that detail product specifications, risk assessments, and compliance with applicable standards.

    • Traceability Information: Ensure information regarding the manufacturer including name, address and contact information for all products is accessible.

    • Product identification: Wolf & Badger assigns a ‘Product Code’ to all of the products listed on the platform so they can be easily identified.

3. Product Labelling Information

  • Ensure product labelling provides clear and accurate information about the product.

    • For example:
      • Care instructions (e.g., washing guidelines).
      • Material composition (e.g., 100% cotton).
      • Safety warnings, if applicable (e.g., "Keep away from fire" if made of flammable materials).
  • Include safety & product information on the Wolf & Badger product listing in the 'Materials & Care' section.

4. Incident Management

  • Responsible person: Wolf & Badger EU will provide a ‘Responsible Person’ of contact for customers to report any product safety issues

  • Monitoring: Wolf & Badger will keep records of complaints and incidents to identify recurring safety issues.

  • Corrective Actions: If a product is found unsafe outside of a Wolf & Badger related customer, the brand is expected to take immediate action to remove the product. Wolf & Badger will report any incidents to the Safety Gate Portal.

  • Notifications: Notify Wolf & Badger about any serious risks or incidents.

  • Respond promptly to requests from authorities for technical documents, safety assessments, and compliance proof.
